OXFORD,
Miss. – Spring has sprung at the University of Mississippi, and the
award-winning landscape makes the perfect backdrop for Spring Visit Day
March 28, planned especially for prospective students.
One of
the major recruiting events held each year, the day offers special
programs to give the visitors a firsthand look at Ole Miss.
“Many
high school and transfer students will be on campus to learn about the
amazing opportunities available here,” said Jody Lowe, associate
director of enrollment services. “The day is a fun and informative look
at academic offerings and student life.”
Special programming
begins with registration at 8 a.m. on the lawn of Martindale Student
Services Center. Activities to follow include an overview of academic
programs, informational sessions on financial aid and housing, and a
picnic in the Grove.
An academic fair showcasing schools and departments is planned that morning. Later in the day, visitors are invited to attend sessions highlighting academic majors and future careers. Faculty will be available to answer questions.
Campus housing is another area of interest to prospective students, said UM graduate student Ann Guinn, coordinator of student tours and recruitment. “On Spring Visit Day, we will address the myths of living on campus,” Guinn said. “We want to get across to the students the concept of community and challenge them to step out of their comfort zone.”
The Office of Student Housing and Residence Life will offer a presentation on campus living and tours of residence halls. UM students who serve as Ole Miss Ambassadors will conduct a panel discussion and lead the tours.
“I really hope visitors can get a personal connection with the campus and the Oxford community,” said Elizabeth Yerger, a senior behavioral management major from Jackson who is executive director of the ambassadors. “Ultimately, we want them to join the Ole Miss family.”
