JACKSON, Miss. – The University of Mississippi Medical Center and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation of Mississippi will host the first adult cystic fibrosis education day next month for families and patients living with the genetic disease.
The event is set for 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Dec. 3 at the UMMC Conference Center at the Jackson Medical Mall Thad Cochran Center.
Health care professionals, including physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists, social workers and dietitians, are invited to attend.
The featured speaker for the event is Dr. Bruce Marshall, vice president for clinical affairs for the National Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Families and patients can hear from other nationally recognized and UMMC health care professionals on topics such as nutrition, exercise and maintaining airway health. Dr. Nauman Chaudary, director of UMMC’s cystic fibrosis program, also will be available to answer questions.
“We want to make every effort to educate everyone involved with CF patients to achieve the best possible care,” Chaudary said. “This day will help boost center efforts in unveiling the mysteries of CF and replace fear with hope for our CF patients and families.”
