Ribbon-cutting ceremony begins at 9 a.m.
OXFORD,
Miss. – A ribbon-cutting ceremony Thursday (April 30) at 9 a.m. marks
the grand opening of the renovated University of Mississippi golf
course and expanded pro shop. An open house and refreshments follow.
“It’s
an exciting day for Ole Miss and for all those who have seen the course
go from what it was two years ago to what it is now,” said Jeff
McManus, director of landscape services and airport/golf course
operations.
Amenities of the new pro shop include a grill, a drive-through window and dining area. The Pro Shop is open 7 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday through Friday.
The UM course reopened in October after a yearlong, $3.5 million renovation. Course renovations included the addition of back tees and rebuilding of sand bunkers, which took the course from 6,670 yards to a playing area of more than 7,000 yards. Additional forward tees were also added to make the course more player-friendly for senior golfers and beginners. The course features 60 new electric golf carts, a state-of-the-art irrigation system, and new bunkers and green complexes, which are much larger, more receptive and built to USGA standards.
“We’ve been waiting on this day for a long time,” said pro shop manager Gerald Barron. “Now, we are ready.”
Earlier this year, the public course was named among the top five renovated courses in America by the international magazine Golf Inc. Courses were judged on playability, routing, maintainability and aesthetics.
