Thacker Mountain Radio to Broadcast Benefit, Special Concert from Ford Center

Thacker Mountain Radio PosterOXFORD,
Miss. – Thacker Mountain Radio has moved this week’s show to the
University of Mississippi’s Gertrude C. Ford Center for the Performing
Arts, which can accommodate the larger crowd expected to attend the
Thursday night benefit show and concert.

The show, which airs
live 6-7 p.m. on Rebel Radio, 92.1 FM, features performances by Marty
Stuart, his wife, Connie Smith, and the Rising Star Fife and Drum Band,
along with the show’s house band.

Stuart is one of country
music’s best known bluegrass and rockabilly artists, Smith is one of
the great country singers, and the Fife and Drum Band is Othar Turner’s
family band.

Author Warren St. John reads from his newest book, “Outcasts United: A
Refugee Team, an American Town,” which explains the work of an
inspirational female coach who founded a youth soccer team to unify
immigrant children and keep them off the streets in a small town
outside Atlanta.

Following the radio show, Stuart will perform a full concert, along
with some special guests, including Robert Khayat, UM’s retiring
chancellor, and Sabrina Brown, UM’s publications director. Khayat first
joined Stuart on the Ford Center stage in September 2002, when Stuart
and his band performed a free concert for the university community and
construction workers who helped build the facility.

Tickets for the special show and concert are available at Off Square Books, and by calling 662-915-7411 or by visiting the UM Box Office in the Ole Miss Student Union, which open until 4 p.m. Wednesday and 6 p.m. Thursday, or the Ford Center Box Office from noon to 4 p.m. Wednesday and until the show begins Thursday.

Most tickets are $10, but a limited number of tickets close to the stage can be purchased for $50.

Once referred to as a “Southern-fried ‘Prairie Home Companion,'” the free, 10-plus-year-old-show features musicians and writers each week who help promote Southern culture.
