High School Girls Invited to Leadership Workshop Aug. 8

Facilitators include Ole Miss coaches, administrators, alumnae

OXFORD,
Miss. – A leadership workshop for girls entering grades 10 through 12
is scheduled Aug. 8 at the University of Mississippi. There is no
charge for participants and lunch is provided.

Enrollment for
the workshop, titled “Leadership for a Changing Society,” is limited to
the first 100 girls who contact workshop coordinator Thomas D. Wallace,
assistant to the provost and associate professor of education, at
662-915-1677 or tdwallac@olemiss.edu. Whitman Smith, director of
enrollment services, is teaming with Wallace as co-coordinator of the
event.

“The University of Mississippi wants to nurture and train
our female leaders of tomorrow and recognize their many contributions,”
Wallace said. “In today’s society, females serve in leadership roles in
almost every profession. Our community, state and nation prosper from
their many contributions.”

The UM Athletics Association, Office
of Enrollment Management and Office of the Provost are helping organize
the event, which will be held on the third floor of the Ole Miss
Student Union. The workshop begins with registration 8-8:45 a.m.,
followed by the welcome and introductions. Concurrent training sessions
run from 9:45 to 10:30 a.m. and from 10:35 to 11:20 a.m. An hourlong
panel discussion concludes the workshop, which will be followed by
lunch from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.

Facilitators include UM staff
Michele Drinkard, head women’s golf coach; Charlotte Fant, assistant
vice chancellor for student affairs; Renee Ladner, head women’s
basketball coach; Melinda Pullen-Carlson, associate dean of students;
Erin Wibbels, assistant track coach; and Ethel Young-Minor, associate
professor of English and African-American studies.

Visiting
alumnae serving as guest facilitators are Rose Jackson Flenorl, manager
of social responsibility and ethnic outreach for FedEx Corp. in
Memphis, president of the Ole Miss Alumni Association; and Carole Lynn
Meadows, instructor at Gulf Coast Community College and founder of Lynn
Meadows Discovery Center in Gulfport, former president of the Ole Miss
Alumni Association.
