Sen. Russell Jolly (D-Houston) of District 8 and Rep. Preston Sullivan (D-Okolona) of District 22, both of Chickasaw County, invited the University of Mississippi senior to visit the Capitol along with her parents, Othelma and Gwen Snow of Okolona.
“They let my parents know that they were so proud of my accomplishments and were introducing a resolution and would like for me to visit,” said Snow, a biochemistry major.
“I was given the opportunity to speak to both the House and Senate. This was my first time to visit the Capitol and I thanked them for giving me the opportunity to visit, and I expressed how proud and honored I am to represent the University of Mississippi for the next year.”
Bradley Baker, interim director of UM’s Department of Campus Programming, accompanied Snow to Jackson.
“The University of Mississippi is fortunate to have an ambassador as special as Kayla,” Baker said. “She is a role model among her peers both inside and outside the classroom. The love she has for this university is not only recognized while she is on campus attending classes but as she visits with people around the state.”
Snow, who was chosen Miss University in February, is preparing for the Miss Mississippi Scholarship Pageant in June in Vicksburg. Her platform is Kids Can, Too!, which encourages children to realize their potential to be volunteers.
“The University of Mississippi has been my home away from home these past four years, and I see this role as a chance to give back to the place I love dearly,” she said.
Snow’s other honors include membership in Gamma Beta Phi honor society, the Columns Society, I.M.A.G.E. and Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.
After May graduation, she plans to attend the School of Pharmacy.
