Cirque Odyssey Acrobatic Show Scheduled at Ford Center Sept. 21

OXFORD, Miss. Cirque Odyssey, part of the Cirque USA tour,
is slated to appear Sept. 21 at the University of
Mississippi Gertrude C. Ford Center for the Performing
Arts. The show, featuring more than 20 acrobats performing
physical feats of balance, flexibility, strength and
coordination, replaces the Golden Dragon Acrobats
originally planned as the first of three performances in
the Ford Center’s new Family Friendly Series this season.

The programming change was necessitated by delays in
securing immigration clearance for the Golden Dragon
Acrobats, said Norman Easterbrook, Ford Center director.
Tickets for the 8 p.m. performance are $15 for general
admission and $7 for children under 18. Children’s tickets
are limited to three with the purchase of each adult price
ticket. For more information or assistance related to a
disability, call the UM Box Office at 662-915-7411.

“I am pleased that we are able to bring Cirque Odyssey to
the Ford Center. I’d wanted to have the troupe on the Ford
stage for a while and now we have the opportunity to bring
it to Oxford,” Easterbrook said. “I really did not want to
cancel a performance especially the first of what for us
is a new series. I think that our audiences will be just
as if not more amazed with this thrilling troupe of
performers.”

Cirque Odyssey showcases performers from China, Latin
America, Europe, Africa, Canada and the U.S. Featuring
hand-to-hand balancing acts, tumblers and contortionists,
the 90-minute production combines action with music in a
demonstration of daring skill, grace, strength and agility.
It is a fast-moving, high-energy show with a loose, yet
humorous, storyline that brings together many different
elements to create a traditional production that is
colorful, creative and suspenseful.

The Ford Center’s Family Friendly series continues Feb. 10
with “The Magic of Lyn America’s Premier Female
Illusionist” and April 12 with “A Year with Frog and Toad.”
