09/18/2007

OXFORD, Miss. University of Mississippi student-athletes
are collecting canned goods as part of the Southeastern
Conference’s 2007 “Together We Can Drive” program. The
first conferencewide community service project is a canned
food drive for each school’s local or regional food banks.

“Whether we get one can or 50 tons of food, we are
providing a great service to the community,” said Lynnette
Johnson, UM senior associate athletics director. The
project runs through Sept. 30.

The Ole Miss Student Athlete Advisory Committee and the
Rebel Ready program are providing several opportunities for
food or cash donations at locations throughout Oxford and
the Ole Miss campus. Students and Oxford residents can also
donate food for free admission to this weekend’s Lady
Rebels volleyball and soccer games.
