Slowing Down In Our Little Southern Town

The days back in grade school when you counted down the clock on the last day of school are long over. In college, you finally have your own place, plus a few roommates. You’ve been on your own for a majority of the year while you attend the greatest school known to man, Ole Miss.

As most of you pack up and head home for the summer, there are a handful of us who just can’t get enough of this place, so we stay through summer.

We all have our own reasons for staying, but if you ask any student who stayed in Oxford, they’ll tell you that they don’t regret it.

They best thing about all of you other folks leaving town is that I can actually get Chick-fil-a breakfast at the Jackson Ave. location without having to wait for an hour. Actually, the lines everywhere are much shorter. There’s not as much traffic and Oxford tends to just slow down.

Another great perk of staying in town during the summer is Sardis Lake. Driving the few miles out to it and being able to drive straight onto the shore is just plain awesome. I call up those few friends who are still in town and everyone piles into a truck. The dog jumps in the back and you grab a football as you leave. Nothing is better than sitting at the lake during the hot Mississippi summer with some great friends and man’s best friend.

Therefore, please don’t feel too bad for those of us who may have stayed to take summer classes or work. We’ll be just fine until you get back.
