Ten Students Inducted Into UM Hall of Fame for 2007-08

OXFORD, Miss. – Ten University of Mississippi seniors have
earned entry into the school’s Hall of Fame, one of the
university’s highest honors.

 

Chancellor Robert Khayat bestowed the honor Friday (Jan.
25) in a ceremony at the Gertrude C. Ford Center for the
Performing Arts, noting that the selection is based on a
student’s academic achievement, community service,
extracurricular activities and potential for future
success.

“The Ole Miss Hall of Fame has recognized outstanding
achievements of students since 1930, and we offer
congratulations to the inductees and their families,”
Khayat said. “The students have shown a commitment to the
community and the university, making a lasting impact on
both. Membership in this elite group indicates success in
every facet of a student’s life.”

Named to the 2007-08 Hall of Fame are Erika Ruth Berry of
Brandon, Gayton Charles Cascio Jr. of Greenville, Laura
Elizabeth Doty of Oxford, Lillie Clarissa Flenorl of
Cordova, Tenn., Mubina Aziz Isani of Oxford, Jermaine
Terrell Jackson of Como, My-Linh Dinh Ngo of Greenville,
Ebony Denise Nichols of Tunica, Ryan Cory Perkins of Houma,
La., and Shadrack Tucker White of Sandersville.

Berry, daughter of James and Antoinette Berry, is majoring
in political science. Vice president of the Associated
Student Body, she is an Ole Miss Ambassador, a Luckyday
Scholar and a member of Alpha Lambda Delta, Lambda Sigma
and Eta Sigma Phi academic honor societies. She is on the
Chancellor’s Honor Roll and has volunteered for the Ole
Miss C.A.R.E.S. coast trip and the Oxford-Lafayette Humane
Society.

Cascio, son of Gayton and Elaine Cascio, is a marketing
major. President of the senior class and Lambda Sigma, he
is a Chancellor’s Stewardship Associate and member of the
Chancellor’s Leadership Class. He belongs to Mortar Board,
Omicron Delta Kappa and Order of Omega national honor
societies.

Doty, daughter of Richard and Beth Doty, is a business
administration major. She is a recipient of several
scholarships, including the Griffin Scholarship, Dow Jones
Foundation Scholarship and Chancellor’s Leadership
Scholarship. She is on the Chancellor’s Honor Roll, an Ole
Miss Ambassador and a member of the Order of Omega, Mortar
Board and Omicron Delta Kappa. She is a volunteer for
Habitat for Humanity, the Pantry and the Make-a-Wish
Foundation.

Flenorl, daughter of Richard and Rose Flenorl, is an
English/journalism major. She is a member of the Associated
Student Body, Lambda Sigma and the Order of Omega. Listed
on the Chancellor’s Honor Roll, she is active in the
Student Media Center as a writer for the Daily
Mississippian newspaper and the Ole Miss yearbook, as well
as an anchor for Newswatch TV. She volunteers for Relay for
Life and for the Boys and Girls Club.

Isani, daughter of Aziz and Mumtaz Isani, is a biochemistry
major in the Sally McDonnell Barksdale Honors College. She
is a member of Phi Kappa Phi all-discipline honor society,
Alpha Epsilon Delta pre-medical honor society, the National
Society of Collegiate Scholars and the American Medical
Student Association. She is a volunteer with Leap Frog, the
Pantry and Baptist Memorial Hospital.

Jackson, son of Claudine Moorehead, is a journalism major.
He is a member of the Associated Student Body, Ole Miss
Ambassadors and the National Association of Black
Journalists. He is a writer for the Daily Mississippian and
the Ole Miss yearbook. He volunteers for Habitat for
Humanity and the Boys and Girls Club.

Ngo, daughter of Ngoan Dinh Ngo, is a biology major in the
Sally McDonnell Barksdale Honors College. A Pichitino
Scholar and an Ole Miss Ambassador, she is a member of the
SMBHC Student Senate, American Medical Student Association
and Associated Student Body. She belongs to Phi Beta Kappa
and Phi Kappa Phi academic honor societies and Beta Beta
Beta honor society in biology, as well as Alpha Lambda
Delta, Alpha Epsilon Delta, Mortar Board and Omicron Delta
Kappa. She is a volunteer with various local and state
organizations, including the Boys and Girls Club, Leap Frog
and Vision del Mundo.

Nichols, daughter of Jeannette and Michael Nichols, is a
psychology major in the Sally McDonnell Barksdale Honors
College. She is president of the Black Student Union, a
member of the Associated Student Body and president of
Lambda Sigma. A Robert C. Khayat Scholarship recipient, she
is a member of Omicron Delta Kappa and Mortar Board.

Perkins, son of Terry and Dianna Perkins, is a biochemistry
major in the Sally McDonnell Barksdale Honors College.
Chosen by fellow students as a Campus Favorite, he is an
Ole Miss Ambassador and listed on the Chancellor’s Honor
Roll. He is a member of Phi Kappa Phi, Alpha Lambda Delta,
Alpha Epsilon Delta, Mortar Board and Omicron Delta Kappa.
He is also a member of the National Society of Collegiate
Scholars and included on the National Dean’s List. He
volunteers with the Boys and Girls Club, Vision del Mundo
and the Upward Youth Basketball Program.

White, son of Bob and Emily White, is a political science
major in the Sally McDonnell Barksdale Honors College. He
is a Truman Scholar, a Taylor Medalist and an Ole Miss
First Scholar. He belongs to Phi Beta Kappa, Phi Kappa Phi,
Alpha Lambda Delta, Lambda Sigma and Gamma Beta Phi. He is
also an Ole Miss Ambassador and member of the Associated
Student Body.

The ceremony also recognized 141 other students for their
inclusion in the fall 2007 edition of Who’s Who Among
Students in American Universities and Colleges.
