Smothers Brothers with ‘Special Guest’ YoYo Man to Perform March 29 at Ford Center

smash.jpgOXFORD, Miss. – If laughter is the best medicine, the
legendary Smothers Brothers deliver a powerful cure.

Tom and Dick Smothers, with nearly 50 years of performing
under their belts, bring lots of jokes and a touch of
nostalgia to the Gertrude C. Ford Center for the Performing
Arts at the University of Mississippi March 29.

Tickets for the 8 p.m. performance are $35, $32 and $29 for
various seating and available by visiting the UM Box Office
in the Student Union, Ford Center Box Office or “events” at

.

“The brothers’ upcoming performance at the Ford Center
provides an opportunity for fans to see the famous duo in a
comfortable and intimate venue,” said Norm Easterbrook,
Ford Center director.

Joining the brothers is the YoYo Man. That is, Tom as the
YoYo Man and Dick as the voice.

“Time has been an essential ingredient in the Smothers
Brothers’ success,” Easterbrook said “They’ve always been
the masters of timeless comedy. Incorporating the YoYo Man
in the comedy routine is simply another reason for their
lasting career.”

The brothers have been described by critics from the Boston
Globe, New York Times and various other media as “one of
the most successful teams in history,” “comedic treasures”
and “comic geniuses.”

Justifiably, time has provided the duo with another
descriptor: an American classic. During the 1960s, ’70s and
’80s, audiences enjoyed them in their prime-time TV series
“The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour,” as well as in
coast-to-coast concert tours and performances with symphony
orchestras. The television series launched their trademark
act of performing folk songs, with Tom on acoustic guitar
and Dick on string bass, which usually led to fake
arguments between the two siblings.

Their contributions to the entertainment world have been
recognized by the Museum of Television and Radio in New
York, which produced a retrospective and seminar on their
work, plus the entertainment industry honored them with a
star on the historic Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Tom and Dick Smothers are justifiably known as “comedy
legends,” Easterbrook said.

“Today, the hilarious sibling rivalry sets the Smothers
Brothers apart from comedy teams past and present. They are
a classic American duo and their show is one you won’t soon
forget,” he said.
