OXFORD, Miss. — The year 2008 as a defining point in time
is the focus for discussion during the 13th annual
Insurance Symposium March 25-26 at the University of
Mississippi.
Featured speakers are Robert Hartwig, president and CEO of
the Insurance Information Institute; Brian Dowd, chairman
of ACE USA; and Mario Vitale, CEO of Zurich Global
Corporate.
Other speakers include Peter Burton, senior division
executive with NCCI Holdings; Scott McDonough, regional
vice president of The Hartford; Billy Roberts, president
and CEO of AmFed; and Bill Pieroni, operations vice
president and chief strategist for State Farm Insurance.
“Bob Hartwig probably is the most-quoted spokesperson for
the insurance industry, Brian Dowd of ACE and Mario Vitale
of Zurich are widely recognized leaders in the industry,
and in Bill Pieroni, we have the chief strategist for State
Farm,” said Larry Cox, professor and Robertson Chair of
Insurance in UM’s School of Business Administration.
Hosted by the business school’s Risk Management and
Insurance program, the symposium consistently draws
hundreds of people from throughout the Mid-South.
Registration is $135, although UM business students can
attend the educational sessions at no charge. Call
662-816-6024.
The symposium offers “early bird” continuing education
classes Tuesday for three hours of CE credit at no
additional cost to registrants. The classes are scheduled
for 1:30 p.m. at UM’s Triplett Alumni Center and library at
the UM School of Law. Registrants attending all symposium
sessions can earn nine hours of CE credit for Mississippi
and Tennessee insurance licenses.
The symposium convenes Wednesday at the Oxford Conference
Center, 102 Ed Perry Blvd. Luncheon speaker is Houston
Nutt, UM’s head football coach.
“After 13 years of assembling these programs, I probably
should just retire immediately because I do not know how,
from top to bottom, we can have a better roster of speakers
in the future,” Cox said.
All symposium registrants and guests are invited to
Tuesday’s opening reception, sponsored by Webb, Sanders &
Williams, 6:30-11 p.m. at the Downtown Grill, 110
Courthouse Square.
