UM hosts Honors Day Convocation

OXFORD, Miss. – The University of Mississippi’s most
outstanding students received recognition as the school
hosted its 65th Honors Day Convocation on April 3, where
Gregory Schirmer was honored as the 2008 Elsie M. Hood
Teacher of the Year. Last years recipient of the award,
David Willson, UM band director, was the keynote speaker.

Also, new members were inducted to Phi Beta Kappa, the
nation’s oldest and most prestigious liberal arts honor
society, on April 4.

In separate ceremonies, students were honored with Marcus
Elvis Taylor Memorial Medals and new members were inducted
into Phi Kappa Phi honor society.
