Oxford Piano Trio Performs Free Concert Thursday in Nutt Auditorium

OXFORD, Miss. – The Oxford Piano Trio performs a free concert at 8 p.m. Thursday (Oct. 9) in Nutt Auditorium at the University of Mississippi.

The trio of UM music faculty are slated perform works by Mozart and Dvorak, and will be joined by guest clarinetist Michael Rowlett for the “Breakdown Tango” by young American composer John Mackey. The Oxford Piano Trio is Stacy Rodgers on piano, Robert Riggs on violin and Susan Gaston on cello. The ensemble formed in 1988.

“We are excited about performing this colorful and very international program,” Riggs said. “The Mozart is elegant and classical, the Dvorak has romantic eastern European flavor, and the ‘Breakdown Tango’ by Mackey will live up to its exotic and descriptive title.”

The trio has toured extensively in Alabama and Mississippi during the past year, and next week’s performance marks their first on-campus concert since spring 2007.
