OXFORD,
Miss. – Important deadlines are rapidly approaching for entering
freshmen and transfer students at the University of Mississippi.
The
priority deadline to submit the Entering Freshman Scholarship
Application is Feb. 1, with a final deadline of April 1. The
application deadline for acceptance to the Sally McDonnell Barksdale
Honors College, Croft Institute for International Studies and Trent
Lott Leadership Institute is also Feb. 1.
“Entering freshmen who
want to be considered for a UM Foundation scholarship must complete
their application by Feb. 1,” said Sarah Sapp, assistant director of
enrollment services for communications.
Besides completing the above applications, students are also encouraged to submit their resumes to their regional admissions counselor, Sapp said. Counselors can be found by clicking on the map at http://www.olemiss.edu/admissions/wmac.html .
Students can begin submitting Free Applications For Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA, forms now and are encouraged to meet the Feb. 15 priority deadline for that application.
The FAFSA is used for federal student loans, work-study and need-based scholarships. “I always tell students regardless of their position, they should always have a FAFSA on file,” Sapp said.
When filling out the FAFSA form, students are asked for a school code, so that forms can be sent to a particular school. The federal school code for Ole Miss is 002440.
An applicant does not have to be admitted as a student to the university before beginning the application process; however, the student needs an application number, which is available by calling 1-800-OLE MISS or 662-915-7226.
“Outside of separate applications for departmental and performance-based gift aid, the scholarship application has been condensed to make it easier on the students,” Sapp said.
