Annual WorldFest April 15 Features International, U.S. Students in Togetherness

world.jpgOXFORD, Miss. – The annual WorldFest at the University of
Mississippi Tuesday (April 15) brings together people of
different nationalities in the Grove to encourage
international relationships and cooperation.

WorldFest is a campuswide event providing an opportunity
for UM’s American and international students to “interact
in a spirit of international friendship and cross-cultural
understanding,” said Tim Woodard, international programs
adviser.

The festival, scheduled 4-9 p.m., is free and open to the
public. The event is organized by the Office of
International Programs and co-sponsored by the Croft
Institute for International Studies and the Ole Miss
Parents Association.

The opening ceremony includes a colorful presentation of
international flags at the Walk of Champions and is to be
followed by three distinct events: WorldGames, FoodFest and
WorldStage.

WorldGames offers a wide variety of sports and games from
around the world. The event “brings international and U.S.
students together to learn more about each other’s cultures
in a fun and exciting way,” Woodard said.

FoodFest, beginning at 5 p.m., celebrates different
cultures by offering samples of various native cuisine.
Some of the food is to be prepared by natives of the
represented country.

WorldStage, beginning on the Grove Pavilion at 6:30 p.m.,
features Ole Miss students in a variety of performances and
cultural programs. All students are invited to sing, dance
and play musical instruments native to their cultures.
