Ole Miss Business Day Oct. 8 Offers Networking, Recruitment Opportunities

OXFORD, Miss. – The School of Business Administration at the University
of Mississippi is helping businesses to identify and recruit some of
the country’s best talent, a venture that provides huge benefits to
both employers and students.

The school, recently ranked in the top 5 percent nationally by U.S.
News and World Report, is sponsoring Ole Miss Business Day to help
recruiters meet top students face to face. The event is set for 10 a.m.
Oct. 8 in the Inn at Ole Miss Ballroom.

“You know your school is very successful when it’s recognized by
outside agencies like U.S. News and World Report,” said Ken Cyree, dean
of the business school. “This shows that we’re having a great impact on
our students and they are getting the education they need to go out and
be successful in a competitive marketplace.”

More than 25 companies have already registered to attend Ole Miss Business Day.

“We are looking for folks with a strong desire to excel, to be part of
a winning team and who are willing to work hard to learn,” said Bill
Fry, CEO of Oreck and an Ole Miss alumnus. “We expect to find a few
candidates who we think would be a good fit with Oreck, as well as let
students know that Oreck is a great place to start one’s career.”

“We are recruiting talented students graduating with a BBA or an MBA,”
said R. Scott Taylor, controller of commercial customer satisfaction
for AutoZone. “We have hired a number of Ole Miss graduates over the
past five years. We know the analytical skills that business school
students have upon graduation and their ability to quickly contribute
to the team.”

The annual event provides students with career planning assistance. It
also gives them a chance to connect with hiring employers, to network
with alumni and to attend a seminar, where they can learn career tips
from a successful business person.

“Students will be able to meet potential employers and show them how
capable they are,” Cyree said. “Businesses can very cost-effectively
see many students in one short time period. It’s really a win-win, both
for the students and the employers.”

In addition to Business Day, John Cassimus, founder of Zoe’s Kitchen,
Makifresh and Jinsei restaurants, will lead a networking and career
workshop from 3 to 4 p.m. The workshop is designed to show students how
to differentiate themselves from their peers in the professional world.
Space is limited, so students must RSVP to events@bus.olemiss.edu.

Even if employers do not know their hiring needs for May 2010, they can
get a head start on identifying the top students who will be available
then. For Business Day registration information, contact Lila Neely at lneely@bus.olemiss.edu.
