‘Listening to Your Business’ Workshop Offers Entrepreneurs Free Business Training, Counseling

Registration deadline for 40 spots is Nov. 11

OXFORD,
Miss – Business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs fearing the uncertain
economy can benefit from a free workshop Thursday (Nov. 13) hosted by
the Small Business Development Center at the University of Mississippi
and the Oxford-Lafayette County Economic Development Foundation.

Scheduled 9:45 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Oxford Chamber of Commerce, the hands-on training program, “Listening to Your Business,” will allow participants to analyze themselves, their businesses and their future plans, as well as provide them with tools to put those plans into action, said Frank Wiebe, SBDC business counselor and workshop conductor.

“In these times, it is important to evaluate your business and what you want to achieve,” Wiebe said. “We believe the only way you can improve your business is to plan for that desired future. We will help [participants] make those plans.”

Registration deadline for the workshop’s 40 spots is 5 p.m. Tuesday (Nov. 11). To register, contact the SBDC at 662-915-1291. Attendees receive lunch, workbooks and other necessary materials at no cost. Free follow-up counseling is also available.

Lynn Sykes, SBDC business counselor, said the workshop is intended to help business owners “in an economy that is such an unknown.”

“It is a frightening time, really, for people who are in business,” Sykes said. “People are not sure if they should still even be in business. Hopefully this will help answer some of those questions.”

The workshop is also sponsored by the North Mississippi Enterprise Initiative Inc., Mississippi Small Business Development Centers and the U.S. Small Business Administration.
