OXFORD, Miss. – Daniel Liao, director general of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Houston, Texas, will discuss U.S-Taiwan relations Thursday (Aug. 23) at the University of Mississippi.
The free public lecture begins at 4 p.m. in the auditorium of the Overby Center for Southern Politics and Journalism.
“Dr. Liao’s talk will focus on the United States relations with Taiwan and the future possibilities for both nations,” said Michael Metcalf, senior international officer at UM. “Earlier in the afternoon, he is scheduled to meet with Chancellor Dan Jones and Oxford Mayor Pat Patterson.”
Alexander Cheng, dean of the School of Engineering, has scheduled a private reception for Liao and his delegation for Wednesday (Aug. 22). Select faculty members and students are invited.
The service area of TECO-Houston covers five states, including Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana and Mississippi. Its mission is to promote exchanges and cooperation in trade and investment, science and technology, culture, education and tourism between Taiwan and the Southern United States. The office also serves the interests of Taiwanese citizens living and traveling in the area and works to provide consular service to those in need.
