OXFORD,
Miss. – Nationally renowned Dance Theatre of Harlem Ensemble performs
Feb. 17 at the University of Mississippi’s Ford Center for the
Performing Arts.

The 8 p.m. program is part of the Dance Theatre
of Harlem’s 40th anniversary Dance for America National Tour. The
seven-week tour, which began in January, features a new DTH ensemble of
16 spirited dancers, ages 18-25.

The event is part of the Ford
Center’s acclaimed Artist Series. Tickets are $20 and $28 for various
seating and available by calling 662-915-7411 or by visiting the UM Box
Office in the Ole Miss Student Union from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. or the Ford
Center Box Office from noon to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The
ensemble is sure to enchant and enthrall audiences with its
performance, which features a combination of classic DTH repertoire and
“new specially created ballets,” said Norm Easterbrook, Ford Center
director. The tour features a new kind of production for DTH, called
the Interactive Performance. It involves the incorporation of live
music, educational and inspirational content, and audience interaction.

The dancers hail from the United States and abroad, including Trinidad, Columbia, Brazil, Japan and Argentina.

“We
are very excited about this opportunity for audiences to experience a
part of Dance Theatre of Harlem,” said Laveen Naidu, Executive Director
of Dance Theatre of Harlem. “The DTH Ensemble is the first step towards
bigger things to come, including the return of an international touring
company.”

The next Artist Series event at the Ford Center is a March 3 performance of “Giselle” by the Russian National Ballet.
