Concert Singers to Perform ‘Messiah’ April 6 at Ford Center

OXFORD,
Miss. – The University of Mississippi Concert Singers, under the
direction of guest conductor Dennis Shrock, presents a performance of
“Messiah” Monday (April 6) at the Gertrude C. Ford Center for the
Performing Arts.

The 8 p.m. concert is part of the university’s Artist Series, in its 71st season.

“Messiah”
is one of the most well-known and adored choral works and is performed
frequently throughout the world, said Norm Easterbrook, Ford Center
director.

Shrock, professor emeritus of music at the University
of Oklahoma, is an acclaimed choral scholar, author and lecturer. The
Concert Singers comprises Ole Miss students from a variety of academic
disciplines.

Concert tickets, priced at $20 to $28 for various
seating, are available by calling 662-915-7411 or by visiting the UM
Box Office in the Ole Miss Student Union from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. or the
Ford Center Box Office from noon to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The
Concert Singers choir has performed at national and regional
conventions. Over the years, the group has toured Europe and Mexico,
and competed in choral events in England, France and Bulgaria.

Shrock
directed choral activities and was head of the graduate choral program
at Oklahoma. His extensive conducting career includes performances with
the New York Philharmonic, Santa Fe Desert Chorale and Canterbury
Choral Society in Oklahoma City.
