Rain Forces Cancellation of Grove Event for South Carolina Game

OXFORD, Miss. – Heavy rains have soaked north Mississippi for days, leaving the ground in the University of Mississippi’s Grove saturated. With more rain forecast for the rest of the week, UM officials have cancelled the planned Thursday night showing of the Ole Miss-South Carolina football game in the
Grove.

The game between the No. 4-ranked Rebels and the Gamecocks, being broadcast nationally from Columbia, S.C., by ESPN,
kicks off at 6:30 p.m. The Student Programming Board and the Cardinal Club had planned to host a game-day gathering to watch the broadcast on a giant TV screen mounted on the Grove stage, but ground conditions and the weather forecast forced them to scrap the plans, said Jennifer Taylor, director of campus programming.
