OXFORD, Miss. – A fundraiser co-sponsored by the University of Mississippi Office of Greek Life and the Dream Riders motorcycle organization earlier this week raised more than $2,500 to help seriously ill children at the Jackson Ronald McDonald House.
The funds collected Tuesday (March 10) will be used to buy supplies that will be added to the donated items – such as food, office materials and cleaning supplies – to fill a large trailer for transporting.
“It is what we do, raise money to help those less fortunate than ourselves,” said David Gilley, Dream Riders chapter president and charter member. “After meeting these kids and their families, you know that you will always be committed to helping.”
The Dream Riders plan to escort the trailer to Jackson March 22, where they will unload the items to be used by families and their seriously ill children staying at the Ronald McDonald House. They hope to visit with children at the house and give them rides on their bikes.
“We are thankful that the fundraiser has allowed us to give to kids a little bit more,” said biker John Williamson, UM professor of medicinal chemistry. “We get to go home and feel good about what we’ve done.”
