OXFORD, Miss. – The Mississippians, the University of Mississippi’s principal student jazz ensemble, is slated to present its annual fall concert Thursday (Nov. 20) at the Ford Center for the Performing Arts.
The ensemble is to perform the music of Count Basie, Charles Mingus and Dizzy Gillespie, with a special performance of Leonard Bernstein’s “Prelude, Fugue and Riffs.”
”’Prelude, Fugue and Riffs’ was commissioned in 1949 by Woody Herman for his band. Our performance features UM faculty Michael Rowlett, clarinet soloist, and Stacy Rodgers, pianist,” said Michael Worthy, associate professor of music and ensemble director.
Tickets for the 8 p.m. performance at the Gertrude C. Ford Center for the Performing Arts are $5 each.
