OXFORD, Miss. – Clarinetist Michael Rowlett, assistant professor of
music at the University of Mississippi, performs a campus concert
Sunday (April 5).
The 3 p.m. performance in the Music Building’s Nutt Auditorium is free and open to the public. Rowlett will be accompanied by pianist Stacy Rodgers, associate professor of music.
“This solo recital will feature a variety of works for clarinet,” Rowlett said. “Two of the pieces are masterworks by German composers, one by Paul Hindemith and the other by Johannes Brahms.”
The concert also features works by American composers, including a piece for clarinet by Donald Martino and one for clarinet and piano by Robert Muczynski.
Many of the pieces to be performed center on the idea of transformation or “the constant reworking and alteration of familiar musical ideas,” Rowlett said.
Paying tribute to his accompanist and colleague, Rowlett said, “It is always a pleasure for me to collaborate with my fellow faculty member, pianist Stacy Rodgers. He is a consummate musician and a delight to work with. We look forward to sharing these pieces with the university community.”
