OXFORD, Miss. University of Mississippi freshmen can grab
a spot in Ole Miss football lore by running across the
field before kickoff Sept. 8 at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.
All first-time Ole Miss students are invited to take part
in Rebel Run, an event officials hope will become just as
established at UM as the Grove. The run, before the Ole
Miss-Missouri game, is free and participants receive a
T-shirt and entry to the stadium.
The sign-up deadline is Sept. 7. To register, visit Online
Services for Current Students at

“This is strictly for fun,” said Whitman Smith, director of
orientation. “Our chancellor saw it done at another school
and thought it would be a great way to introduce our
students to the university community. We’re looking forward
to it and hope all our new students participate.”
Nearly 1,000 students showed up to participate in the first
Rebel Run, which was originally scheduled for Sept. 23,
2006, before the Ole Miss-Wake Forest game, but was rained
out and rescheduled, Smith said. Although the rescheduled
run drew fewer students, those who did take part enjoyed
the event, he said.
