OXFORD, Miss. – University of Mississippi alumnus Steven G. Rogers,
president and CEO of Parkway Properties in Jackson, visits his alma
mater Thursday (Sept. 11) to discuss the evolving real estate market
with MBA students.

Under the auspices of the Otho Smith Lecture Series in the School of
Business Administration, Rogers’ presentation “The Changing Real Estate
Landscape” is set for 4:30 p.m. in Connor Hall, Room 110. It is free
and open to the public.

“It’s always interesting to bring back our alumni to expose students to
different types of career paths that are out there, so that’s a big
part of this series,” said Charles Noble, associate professor of
marketing and director of MBA programs. “Mr. Rogers is not only savvy
in real estate, but he’s also very skilled in running an organization,
so we’re looking forward to hearing him speak.”

In June, Parkways Properties, a real estate investment trust, was ranked as one of the Top 25 Best Medium Companies to Work for in America by the Great Place to Work Institute Inc. The rankings were based primarily on employee surveys and comments.

The company specializes in office operations, fund management, and leasing and acquisition of commercial properties. As of August 2008, it “owns or has an interest in 67 office properties located in 11 states with an aggregate of approximately 13.8 million square feet of leasable space,” according to the company’s Web site.

Rogers, who earned his undergraduate degree from UM in 1976, also plans to discuss how his educational experience at Ole Miss influenced his career.

“The years that I spent at the University of Mississippi offered me a firm foundation upon which to build a career as a leader in the real estate industry,” Rogers said. “Parkway Properties places great reliance on the important character traits stressed at the university, such as honesty, integrity and work ethics, to build a culture of high-performance.”

After graduating from UM, Rogers spent five years in the U.S. Army before earning his MBA from Harvard Graduate School of Business in 1983. He began his career at Parkway Properties as an asset manager, then worked his way to vice president and to senior vice president, before being named president of the company in 1993 and CEO in 1997.

The Otho Smith Lecture Series, initiated in 1981 through a grant from the Phil B. Hardin Foundation, brings prominent business executives to the UM campus as guest speakers. It is named for the late Meridian businessman, philanthropist and former president of the Ole Miss Alumni Association.
