OXFORD, Miss. – The University of Mississippi Counseling Center and the Oxford-Lafayette County Humane Society team up this week (April 27-May 1) for Pet-A-Puppy, an anti-stress campaign for faculty, staff and students.
Programming includes a series of activities geared to helping campus members manage their stress levels during their usual packed end-of-semester schedules. The daily events will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Student Union and the Grove.
“The Oxford-Lafayette County Humane Society will be bringing therapy dogs as well as adorable young puppies to the Ole Miss campus to provide students an opportunity to engage in some pet therapy and benefit from the stress reduction associated with human-animal interactions,” said Josie Cooke, counselor at the Ole Miss Counseling Center.
In addition to therapy dogs, there will be five-minute massages offered on Monday and Thursday, yoga in the Grove on Wednesday, and Open Jam Session on Friday. There will also be daily prize drawings and other activities. Sign-ups for the relaxation events are available in the Counseling Center.
Counselors will also provide information about the effects that stress and anxiety can have on the body and performance.
