Quiet Before the Storm

The Ole Miss campus has a sense of calm this week that only can be described as the quiet before the storm. In less than a week, around 20,000 Ole Miss students will descend on Oxford, coming from their hometowns, summer internships or study abroad programs.

It is a time that Oxford residents both love and dread. With the students come some inconveniences — more traffic, less parking, longer waits at restaurants — but they also bring a sense of life and excitement that is absent from this small town through the summer months. The arrival of students means the fall semester has arrived; football season will soon begin; and at least for a moment, everything seems right with the world.

Welcome back, students! It’s not the same without you. We are glad you are back!
