OXFORD, Miss. — Various religious tenets are to be
explored in seventh annual World Religions Series this
spring at the University of Mississippi.
Scheduled Feb. 4, March 3 and 31, and April 7, the
hour-long programs begin at 7 p.m. in Paris-Yates Chapel
and feature a lecture and question-and-answer session.
Subjects to be covered in chronological order are
Christianity, Buddhism, Vedic and Sikhism.
The public is invited to attend and there is no admission
charge.
The series began as an effort to shed light on each of the
major non-Judeo-Christian religions and to raise awareness
of the impact of faith on the UM campus and in the
community.
Charter Morris, international programs adviser, said past
lectures have been extremely successful. He hopes to see
large crowds and wants to dispel misconceptions about the
religions of the world.
“We hope by focusing the talks on the holidays and
traditions of each faith, that people will be able to make
a more personal connection to those of other faiths,”Morris
said. “By sharing the very personal celebrations of
holidays such as Ramadan, Easter, Yom Kippur and others, we
feel that people will be able to take away a small but
significant understanding of another’s faith.”
