OXFORD, Miss. – Lyttleton “Lyt” Harris, retired president
and CEO of Southwest Management and Marketing Company of
Houston, is scheduled to speak Thursday (April 24) at the
University of Mississippi.
Harris addresses MBA students at 2 p.m. in Conner Hall,
Room 110, on how the choices people make during college
years and early in their business careers determine largely
how well they do in the future. The presentation, part of
the Otho Smith Lecture Series, is free and open to the
public.
During the late 1980s and 1990s, Harris and his wife,
stockbroker and PBS television host Venita VanCaspel, spent
time on the lecture circuit presenting their popular
seminar “Winning the Money Game.”
During his upcoming address, Harris said he plans to review
and recommend 10 choices he thinks students should consider
making now and after they graduate from college that should
help them become successful in life and business.
“These are 10 choices that I made along the way that I feel
contributed to my own success,” he said.
John Holleman, director of the business school’s corporate
relations and MBA services, said it is an honor to host
Harris and recognize him as an Otho Smith Fellow.
“To ensure that our business education is the most relevant
for today’s business environment, we are always seeking to
enhance the learning experience of our students by
balancing theory and practice,” Holleman said. “The depth
and scope of Lyt Harris’ experience in business truly
provides our students with a wealth of insights for their
career development.”
Harris graduated from Ole Miss in 1962 with a bachelor of
business administration degree in marketing and sales
management. He earned a master’s degree in marketing and
economics from Louisiana State University in 1963. He
retired as head of the residential property management
concern in 2004 and serves as managing partner of the
Harris Investment Partnership, specializing in stock and
venture capital investments. He also is vice chairman of
Anderson Trail Inc., an organic and natural foods
manufacturer based in Texas.
The Otho Smith Lecture Series, initiated in 1981 through a
grant from the Phil B. Hardin Foundation, brings prominent
business executives to the Oxford campus as guest speakers.
It is named for the late Meridian businessman,
philanthropist and former president of the UM Alumni
Association.
