OXFORD, Miss. – A musical performance featuring the songs
and stories of American legend Johnny Cash promises to lift
hearts and stir souls Saturday (Feb. 2) at the University
of Mississippi.
“Ring of Fire,” a journey into the life and sounds of the
beloved singer by a national touring company, takes the
stage at 8 p.m. in the Gertrude C. Ford Center for the
Performing Arts.
Tickets are $35, $32 and $29 for various seating and
available by calling the UM Box Office at 662-915-7411.
Norm Easterbrook, Ford Center director, said he looks
forward to the show, which completed a Broadway run last
year.
“‘Fire’ will be exciting as it is just coming off
Broadway,” Easterbrook said. “Because of the generational
appeal of Cash’s music, I know this production will be a
favorite among theatergoers, especially in this region.”
Created by Tony Award winner Richard Maltby Jr., “Ring of
Fire” features musical direction by Jeff Lisenby and
choreography by Lisa Shriver. Its cast of 14 multi-talented
performers takes the audience on a rousing adventure of
love and faith, struggle and success, all with the
strength, humor and downright honesty that made Johnny Cash
one of the greatest songwriters and most revered
storytellers in the history of American music.
The show features 38 of the music legend’s songs, including
“Country Boy,” “A Thing Called Love,” “Five Feet High and
Rising,” “Daddy Sang Bass,” “Ring of Fire,” “I Walk the
Line,” “I’ve Been Everywhere,” “The Man in Black” and his
final hit, “Hurt.”
