Robert Walker Scholarship

The Robert Walker Scholarship application requirements have been posted online today. If there’s anyone you’d like to share this with on Facebook, it’s very easy. Just go to the CLM fan page and click on the “share” button underneath the recent post about the scholarship.


Robert Walker Scholarship in Christian Journalism

Christian Life Missions, a 501 © (3) organization, will be awarding five-$2,000 Robert Walker Scholarships in June for the 2010-2011 school year. The scholarships will be awarded to five qualified journalism students who have at least a 3.5 grade average. Both undergraduate and graduate students, as well as previous applicants and winners, may apply.

Below are the scholarship entry guidelines which may be posted and distributed.

Robert Alander Walker received his B.S. from Northwestern in 1936 and an M.S. in 1941. He was given the honorary degree of Litt.D. by John Brown University in 1947, and a LL.D. by Taylor University in 1962. He also received an award from Oklahoma Baptist University in 1948, and has been listed in Marquis Who’s Who in America since 1972.

Walker established the Christian Writers’ Institute, a correspondence school which has graduated upwards of 25,000 students, and Creation House, a Christian book publishing company. He received the first prestigious Magazine Publishers Award from the Evangelical Christian Association in 1994, and is considered to be the pioneer of Christian journalism. Guidelines for the $2,000 Robert Walker Scholarship in Christian Journalism are as follows:

1. Student must have at least a grade point average of 3.5.
2. Student must submit five copies of all documents.
3. Must be a student in a college (not high school), undergraduate or graduate.
4. Previous applicants and winners may reapply.

To apply, send five copies of each of the following:

1. Letter explaining your interest and commitment to Christian journalism.
2. Current resume.
3. Certified transcript of academic work (original plus four copies).
4. Five different published works.

Deadline date for entry is May 1, 2010.

Scholarship checks will be mailed to the colleges and/or universities of the five winners for the 2010-2011 academic year. Please indicate the contact person and address of the college for which the check should be mailed to.

Judges include five distinguished journalists and journalism educators.
