OXFORD, Miss. – The Mississippi Association of Physicists and the
Mid-South Chapter of the Acoustical Society of America conduct a joint
fall meeting this weekend (Oct. 30-31) at the University of
Mississippi.
Several
sessions of general interest are open to the public. They include
“Architectural Acoustics,” set for 2 p.m. Friday in Lewis Hall.
Open events scheduled Saturday in the National Center for Physical
Acoustics include “The Earthquake Next Door?” at 8:30 a.m.,
“Musical Acoustics with Smartphone Apps” at 12:45 p.m.,
“Physics of Music” at 1:30 and “Alien Soundscapes” at
1:45.
Charles
Langston of the Center for Earthquake Research and Information in
Memphis, Brent Hoffmeister of Rhodes College and Andi Petculescu of the
University of Louisiana at Lafayette are among the speakers for these
presentations.
