OXFORD, Miss. – The St. Petersburg Ballet Theatre brings
Shakespeare’s classic tale of love and loss to the Gertrude
C. Ford Center for the Performing Arts at the University of
Mississippi Tuesday (March 4).
Tickets for the 8 p.m. performance of “Romeo and Juliet”
are $27, $24 and $12 for various seating and available by
visiting the UM Box Office in the Student Union, Ford
Center Box Office or online at

“‘Romeo and Juliet’ rendered in dance makes the classic
tale of love and loss even more heart-wrenching,” said Norm
Easterbrook, Ford Center director.
The troupe’s performance has been described in reviews as
“genuinely moving” as well as a “beautifully executed
example of the wonders that can be achieved through an
inspired approach to choreography.” The San Antonia Express
News described it as “a fresh and welcome interpretation of
Shakespeare’s play.”
The theatre’s repertoire includes choreographic
masterpieces such as “Swan Lake,” “The Nutcracker,” “The
Sleeping Beauty” and “Don Quixote.” There are more than 60
dancers in the unique company, the majority having
graduated from the Vaganova Ballet School in St Petersburg
(Russia).
Yuri Petukhov is the show’s artistic director. Besides
being described one of the most interesting performers in
modern choreography dance, Petukhov is an internationally
recognized choreographer and considered to be one of
Russia’s premier ballet masters.
Each year, the company also performs outside Russia to
audiences in Spain, The Netherlands, Belgium, Germany,
Ireland, the United Kingdom, New Zealand, Australia, South
Korea, South Africa and France (Paris).
