The 6 p.m. program in Bryant Hall, Room 209, is free and open to the public. Before his lecture, Spinelli plans a book signing at 5:30 p.m. in Bryant Hall, Farrington Gallery. His campus visit is co-hosted by UM’s Department of Health Promotion, Exercise Science and Recreation and Department of Psychology.

“The state of Mississippi is near the bottom when it comes to funding HIV education, prevention and treatment,” said Kevin Cozart, adviser for UM’s Gay-Straight Alliance. “Anytime we can educate the populace on the effects of, ways to prevent and treatment methods for HIV and AIDS, we are continuing the legacy the GLBT community formed during the early days of the AIDS epidemic.”

Spinelli is a board-certified internist in private practice in New York City, and he served as clinical director of HIV at Cabrini Medical Center. He has made frequent television appearances and is the health expert on the syndicated gay-friendly radio program “Radio with a Twist,” a national talk show on FM.

Spinelli’s lecture is among dozens of UM events planned to prepare students and local audiences for the first 2008 presidential debate, to be hosted at UM Sept. 26. A complete list of debate-related events and activities is available at http://debate.olemiss.edu/.
