UM Picked as Top 20 Tailgating Site, Fans Get to Choose Top School in Open Voting

OXFORD, Miss. – With football season only days away, the University of Mississippi has picked up another accolade as one of the country’s top tailgating destinations. Southern Living magazine lists the university as one of the top 20 schools for “The South’s Best Tailgate” in its September issue.

The final rankings will be determined by fans, who are encouraged to vote for their favorite teams either online or by smartphone. The winning school will be announced at a home football game no later than Nov. 10.

Ole Miss is nominated in the category of “Style Setters,” which notes that “from sundresses to cake stands, these schools showcase true splendor in the grass.” Other schools in the category are Hampden-Sydney College, Howard University, Southern Methodist University and the University of Virginia.

The special section includes recipes, voting instructions and photos from the respective schools.

“Tailgating combines two of the South’s greatest loves: food and football,” said Southern Living editor Lindsay Bierman. “No one on Earth celebrates game day like we do: it’s a cocktail party, family reunion, and fashion show all in one.”

Fans can vote once a day, and voting is open until Oct. 1. Plus, one voter will be chosen to win $2,500 at the end of the contest. To vote online for Ole Miss, go to http://www.southernliving.com/tailgate. To vote by smartphone, download the free DigimarcDiscover.
