University Community Donates to Needy Families

OXFORD, Miss. – University of Mississippi students, faculty
and staff participated in the annual Adopt-a-Basket program
this week, donating 274 baskets filled with ingredients for
Thanksgiving meals for needy families in the Oxford area.

Additionally, seven boxes of canned goods were delivered to
The Pantry.

“Numerous families have already phoned to express their
gratitude for the generosity extended to them by members of
the university who contributed to this year’s
Adopt-a-Basket effort,” said Val Ross, assistant dean of
students for multicultural affairs and volunteer services.
“It is a wonderful feeling to work amongst a community of
individuals who embrace giving so wholeheartedly.”

The Adopt-a-Basket initiative, sponsored by the UM Dean of
Students Office, began more than three years ago as part of
the Mississippi Universities Service Into Caring project
involving the state’s eight public institutions of higher
learning.
