OXFORD, Miss. Piano duo Diane Wang and Stacy Rodgers
perform a free, public concert Monday (Sept. 17) at the
University of Mississippi.
The 8 p.m. program in Nutt Auditorium of Scruggs Hall
features the two music faculty members who have been making
music together since before their marriage in 1983. Since
that time, they have presented recitals throughout the
Midwest, South and Southwest. Their programs offer an
intriguing blend of standard four-hand and two-piano
repertoire, as well as new works by contemporary
composers.
For their upcoming concert, they have chosen works for two
pianos by American composer and Pulitzer Prize-winner
William Bolcom, plus works by Spanish Romantic Isaac
Albeniz, tango sensation Astor Piazzolla and jazz giant
Dave Brubeck. They will end the program with a
“barn-burner” by modern Polish composer Witold
Lutoslawski.
Wang, music instructor and coordinator of the keyboard
musicianship curriculum, received degrees from Indiana
University and the University of Texas at Austin. She
performs recitals and plays as a soloist with orchestra,
including performances throughout America and in China and
Mexico.
Rodgers, associate professor of music and head of keyboard
studies and accompanying, heads the Ole Miss Community
Music School. A native of Texas, he is a graduate of
Southern Methodist University and the University of Texas
at Austin.
