OXFORD,
\nMiss. – High school seniors statewide are invited to the University of
\nMississippi Saturday (Jan. 31) for the 2009 Future Educators Conference.<\/p>\n

With
\nthe future of the state, nation and world in the hands of today’s
\nteens, UM recognizes the importance of helping prepare tomorrow’s
\neducational leaders. The free event is intended to inspire the students
\nto consider education as a career.<\/p>\n

“We want to host high school
\nseniors on campus to provide them an opportunity to visit our
\nfacilities, talk with our faculty and to discuss their career goals as
\na future educator,” said Tom Burnham, education dean.
\n

Conference check-in begins at 8:30 a.m. in Johnson Commons Ballroom, followed by brief information sessions concerning admissions procedures, scholarships and financial aid; a campus tour; and a tour and overview of residence halls. A noon luncheon is planned in Guyton Hall, where faculty, students and alumni will share their experiences and answer questions. “One of our primary goals as a teacher preparation program is the advancement of our schools and communities,” Burnham said. “We can accomplish this by preparing individuals to be successful teachers, counselors and administrators.”<\/p>\n
