OXFORD,
\nMiss. – Children in kindergarten through sixth grade can participate in
\nthe University of Mississippi Museum’s “Too Cool After School” Program
\nTuesday (Feb. 3)-April 29.<\/p>\n

The astronomy-related classes are in
\nobservance of the International Year of Astronomy celebration. The free
\nprogram is offered at the museum, Fifth Street and University Avenue,
\nfrom 3:15 to 4:30 p.m. on each scheduled day. Children can attend any
\nor all of the sessions.<\/p>\n

“The museum has an opportunity to offer
\nstudents things that they might not be exposed to in their normal K-6
\neducation,” said Holly Bethune, museum educator. “This year, we’re
\nfocusing on astronomy because of the 400th anniversary of Galileo and
\nhis telescope. We’re turning the education lab into a planetarium this
\nsemester for a very hands-on, tactile experience.”<\/p>\n

Planned
\ntopics are “Introduction to Astronomy” Feb. 3; “Our Home: The Milky Way
\nand Other Galaxies” Feb. 4; “The Sun” Feb. 17; “Mercury” Feb. 18;
\n“Venus” Feb. 24; “Earth” Feb. 25; “Planetarium” March 4 and 11; “The
\nPath to Mars” March 18 and 25; “People and Space” April 1; and
\n“Lift-Off Into Space” April 8, 15, 22 and 29.<\/p>\n
