OXFORD,
\nMiss. – The Russian National Ballet Theatre will perform the classic
\nlove story “Giselle” Tuesday (March 3) at the University of
\nMississippi’s Ford Center for the Performing Arts.<\/p>\n

First
\nperformed in 1841, “Giselle” tells the story of a young village girl
\nwho falls in love with a nobleman disguised as a peasant. She becomes
\nengaged and learns that her fiance is engaged to a noblewoman. The
\nshock of the discovery leads her to commit suicide. Her spirit is
\nordered to destroy the man who caused her pain, although she is still
\ndeeply in love with him.
\n

Complete with love, betrayal and forgiveness, “Giselle” remains one of the most loved and performed ballets of all time.<\/p>\n

“It’s a classic story that is about love and revenge and how love triumphs in the end,” said Kate Meacham, Ford’s assistant director of marketing. “Giselle dies, but love still triumphs. Even her spirit, after she’s gone, is able to transcend and show her love.”<\/p>\n

The show begins at 8 p.m. Tickets are $30, $33 and $37 for various seating and available by visiting the UM Box Office in the Student Union, Ford Center Box Office or online at http:\/\/www.olemiss.edu\/fordcenter\/<\/a> . They also can be purchased by calling 662-915-7411. UM students with a valid I.D. can purchase discounted tickets for $10 before the night of the show.<\/p>\n

\"gizelle.jpg\"The Russian National Ballet Theatre was founded in 1989 by Sergei Radchenko, the legendary principal dancer of the Bolshoi Ballet. Leading dancers from across Russia, along with stars of the Bolshoi and Kirov Ballets, have forged the ballet company under Radchenko’s direction. The company has staged new productions of timeless classics such as “Giselle,” “Paquita” and “Carmen.” The Russian National Ballet continues to expand its repertoire, commissioning new works from within Russia and abroad, as well as continuing the traditions which define the best in Russian ballet.<\/p>\n

“The Russian National Ballet Theatre is a top company,” Meacham said. “‘Giselle’ will be well done and patrons will get a chance to see one of the highest-caliber ballets.”<\/p>\n
