Ted Ownby<\/p><\/div>\n

Retiring University of Mississippi<\/a> history and Southern studies<\/a> professor Ted Ownby often talks of his fondness for former students, so on Sunday (June 11), several of them will return the favor.<\/p>\n

The annual Summer Sunset Series features a Southern Studies Showcase in Ownby’s honor, organized by Southern studies alumnus Jamison Hollister. Alumni Tyler Keith, Kell Kellum and Thomas Bryan Ledford will perform eclectic music on the Grove stage at 6 p.m.<\/p>\n

Before the concert, at 3 p.m., Ownby will discuss the new book he is working on<\/a>, a narrative-based work telling the stories of obscure Mississippians doing fascinating things. The lecture is set for the Tupelo Room of Barnard Observatory, followed by a picnic on the lawn, all of which are open to the public.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
