Submitted photos<\/p><\/div>\n<p>OXFORD, Miss. \u2013 Eudora Welty Prize winner Ethel Morgan Smith and Pulitzer Prize winner Jane Smiley will discuss their latest books at 7 p.m. Oct. 25 in Nutt Auditorium at the <a href=\"https:\/\/olemiss.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">University of Mississippi<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The event is free and open to the public.<\/p>\n<p>Smith won the 2023 Eudora Welty Prize for her <a href=\"https:\/\/www.upress.state.ms.us\/Books\/P\/Path-to-Grace\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">&#8220;Path to Grace: Reimagining the Civil Rights Movement&#8221;<\/a> (University Press of Mississippi). She praises Smith&#8217;s work in a review stating it is &#8220;a terrific read \u2013 shocking, amusing, enlightening and mesmerizing, beginning to end.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Smiley <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pulitzer.org\/winners\/jane-smiley\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">won the Pulitzer Prize<\/a> in 1992 for her book &#8220;A Thousand Acres,&#8221; which reimagines William Shakespeare&#8217;s &#8220;King Lear&#8221; in the 20th century. Her most recent work, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.heydaybooks.com\/catalog\/the-questions-that-matter-most\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">&#8220;The Questions that Matter Most&#8221;<\/a> (Heyday Books, 2023), is a collection of nonfiction essays.<\/p>\n<p>She will also preview her upcoming book, which is a reimagining of her life as a musician and slated for release in April 2024.<\/p>\n<p>Bruce Levingston, Chancellor&#8217;s Honors College Artist in Residence and Lester Glenn Fant Chair, will lead the conversation.<\/p>\n<p>Levingston, a concert pianist who teaches Hon 445: Art and the Republic in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.honors.olemiss.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sally McDonnell Barksdale Honors College<\/a>, has assigned his students to read books from Smith and Smiley.
