\"ThackerOXFORD,
\nMiss. – Thacker Mountain Radio has moved this week’s show to the
\nUniversity of Mississippi’s Gertrude C. Ford Center for the Performing
\nArts, which can accommodate the larger crowd expected to attend the
\nThursday night benefit show and concert.<\/p>\n

The show, which airs
\nlive 6-7 p.m. on Rebel Radio, 92.1 FM, features performances by Marty
\nStuart, his wife, Connie Smith, and the Rising Star Fife and Drum Band,
\nalong with the show’s house band.<\/p>\n

Stuart is one of country
\nmusic’s best known bluegrass and rockabilly artists, Smith is one of
\nthe great country singers, and the Fife and Drum Band is Othar Turner’s
\nfamily band.<\/p>\n

Author Warren St. John reads from his newest book, “Outcasts United: A
\nRefugee Team, an American Town,” which explains the work of an
\ninspirational female coach who founded a youth soccer team to unify
\nimmigrant children and keep them off the streets in a small town
\noutside Atlanta.<\/p>\n

Following the radio show, Stuart will perform a full concert, along
\nwith some special guests, including Robert Khayat, UM’s retiring
\nchancellor, and Sabrina Brown, UM’s publications director. Khayat first
\njoined Stuart on the Ford Center stage in September 2002, when Stuart
\nand his band performed a free concert for the university community and
\nconstruction workers who helped build the facility.<\/p>\n


Tickets for the special show and concert are available at Off Square Books, and by calling 662-915-7411 or by visiting the UM Box Office in the Ole Miss Student Union, which open until 4 p.m. Wednesday and 6 p.m. Thursday, or the Ford Center Box Office from noon to 4 p.m. Wednesday and until the show begins Thursday.<\/p>\n

Most tickets are $10, but a limited number of tickets close to the stage can be purchased for $50.<\/p>\n

Thacker Mountain Radio normally broadcasts live from Off Square Books in downtown Oxford at 6 p.m. Thursdays and is rebroadcast statewide at 7 p.m. Saturdays on Mississippi Public Broadcasting.<\/p>\n

Once referred to as a “Southern-fried ‘Prairie Home Companion,'” the free, 10-plus-year-old-show features musicians and writers each week who help promote Southern culture.<\/p>\n
