\nOXFORD,
\nMiss. – A leadership workshop for girls entering grades 10 through 12
\nis scheduled Aug. 8 at the University of Mississippi. There is no
\ncharge for participants and lunch is provided.<\/p>\n
Enrollment for
\nthe workshop, titled “Leadership for a Changing Society,” is limited to
\nthe first 100 girls who contact workshop coordinator Thomas D. Wallace,
\nassistant to the provost and associate professor of education, at
\n662-915-1677 or tdwallac@olemiss.edu. Whitman Smith, director of
\nenrollment services, is teaming with Wallace as co-coordinator of the
\nevent.<\/p>\n
“The University of Mississippi wants to nurture and train
\nour female leaders of tomorrow and recognize their many contributions,”
\nWallace said. “In today’s society, females serve in leadership roles in
\nalmost every profession. Our community, state and nation prosper from
\ntheir many contributions.”<\/p>\n
The UM Athletics Association, Office
\nof Enrollment Management and Office of the Provost are helping organize
\nthe event, which will be held on the third floor of the Ole Miss
\nStudent Union. The workshop begins with registration 8-8:45 a.m.,
\nfollowed by the welcome and introductions. Concurrent training sessions
\nrun from 9:45 to 10:30 a.m. and from 10:35 to 11:20 a.m. An hourlong
\npanel discussion concludes the workshop, which will be followed by
\nlunch from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.<\/p>\n
Facilitators include UM staff
\nMichele Drinkard, head women’s golf coach; Charlotte Fant, assistant
\nvice chancellor for student affairs; Renee Ladner, head women’s
\nbasketball coach; Melinda Pullen-Carlson, associate dean of students;
\nErin Wibbels, assistant track coach; and Ethel Young-Minor, associate
\nprofessor of English and African-American studies.<\/p>\n
Visiting
\nalumnae serving as guest facilitators are Rose Jackson Flenorl, manager
\nof social responsibility and ethnic outreach for FedEx Corp. in
\nMemphis, president of the Ole Miss Alumni Association; and Carole Lynn
\nMeadows, instructor at Gulf Coast Community College and founder of Lynn
\nMeadows Discovery Center in Gulfport, former president of the Ole Miss
\nAlumni Association.<\/p>\n
