Rebels Finish In Sixth<\/strong><\/p>\n

Blake Morris<\/p><\/div>\n

STATESBORO, Ga. —<\/strong> Blake Morris<\/a> fired a 2-under 70 on the final day to cap off a career-best tournament and finish in a tie for seventh, while Joe David<\/a> also earned a top-10 finish to lead the Rebels to a sixth-place finish at the Chris Schenkel Invitational hosted by Georgia Southern University.<\/p>\n

Ole Miss turned in a team score of 2-over 292 Sunday, their only round over-par of the tournament.<\/p>\n

No. 7 Alabama, who entered the final day with a commanding lead, took home the tournament championship.\u00a0 The Crimson Tide topped second-place Virginia by 22 strokes after shooting a 280 Sunday.<\/p>\n

“Blake had his best tournament as a Rebel,” said Ole Miss head coach Ernest Ross<\/a>.\u00a0 “He made three bogeys in three days–a hallmark of a good player.\u00a0 We need more of our team members at or under-par.\u00a0 I think we can do it.”<\/p>\n

For the freshman Morris, the seventh-place finish was the first top-20 placement of his collegiate career.\u00a0 The Waterbury, Conn. native rolled in three birdies on Sunday and bogeyed just one hole.\u00a0 For the tournament, Morris finished at\u00a0 9-under and shot under-par in all three rounds, including a career-best 68 on Friday.<\/p>\n

After shooting under-par in the first two rounds, including a season-best 66 on Friday, David carded a 1-over 73 on Sunday.\u00a0 That was good enough for the senior to earn his fifth top-10 finish in six tournaments this season.<\/p>\n

Tom Brown<\/a>, who shot a 73 on both Friday and Saturday, wrapped up the tournament with a 74.<\/p>\n

The Rebels will be back in action March 25-27, as they compete in the Hootie at Bull’s Bay in Awendaw, S.C.<\/p>\n
