OXFORD, Miss. \u2013 Pop-rock singer-songwriter Gavin DeGraw is headed to the University of Mississippi next week for a free concert in the Grove.<\/p>\n

The April 20 show begins at 8:30 p.m. on the Grove stage with opening act Craig Morgan. The show is sponsored by the Ole Miss Student Programming Board and the Department of Campus Programming.<\/p>\n

Last spring’s free concert, featuring the Goo Goo Dolls, drew a large crowd, and the Student Programming Board hopes to duplicate that success with this year’s event, said Bradley Baker, SPB director.<\/p>\n

“Students want a big name and a big concert, so two years ago we decided to produce one concert a year and make it huge,” Baker said.<\/p>\n

DeGraw broke onto the mainstream music scene in 2003 with his debut album “Chariot,” which sold more than a million copies. He has topped the charts with several singles, including “In Love with a Girl,” “I Don’t Want to Be” and, most recently, “Not Over You.”<\/p>\n

The singer is also competing with several other celebrities for the mirrored ball trophy on the ABC hit series “Dancing with the Stars.”<\/p>\n

Morgan, who is from Kingston Springs, Tenn. is a renowned country music star and has several chart-topping singles. A military veteran, he frequently travels overseas to perform singles such as “Bonfire” and “That’s What I Love About Sundays” to deployed troops. Morgan also shows his love for those in uniform by serving as the spokesperson for the Folds of Honor, an organization that provides post-secondary educational scholarships for children and spouses of U.S. military service members killed or disabled during their service.<\/p>\n
