Preston Sullivan of Okolona at the Capitol in Jackson.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>OXFORD, Miss. \u2013 Kayla Snow, the reigning Miss University, was hosted at the state Capitol in Jackson Tuesday (April 10) by two members of the Legislature.<\/p>\n<p>Sen. Russell Jolly (D-Houston) of District 8 and Rep. Preston Sullivan (D-Okolona) of District 22, both of Chickasaw County, invited the University of Mississippi senior to visit the Capitol along with her parents, Othelma and Gwen Snow of Okolona.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey let my parents know that they were so proud of my accomplishments and were introducing a resolution and would like for me to visit,\u201d said Snow, a biochemistry major.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was given the opportunity to speak to both the House and Senate. This was my first time to visit the Capitol and I thanked them for giving me the opportunity to visit, and I expressed how proud and honored I am to represent the University of Mississippi for the next year.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bradley Baker, interim director of UM\u2019s Department of Campus Programming, accompanied Snow to Jackson.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe University of Mississippi is fortunate to have an ambassador as special as Kayla,\u201d Baker said. \u201cShe is a role model among her peers both inside and outside the classroom. The love she has for this university is not only recognized while she is on campus attending classes but as she visits with people around the state.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Snow, who was chosen Miss University in February, is preparing for the Miss Mississippi Scholarship Pageant in June in Vicksburg. Her platform is Kids Can, Too!, which encourages children to realize their potential to be volunteers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe University of Mississippi has been my home away from home these past four years, and I see this role as a chance to give back to the place I love dearly,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Snow\u2019s other honors include membership in Gamma Beta Phi honor society, the Columns Society, I.M.A.G.E. and Who\u2019s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.<\/p>\n<p>After May graduation, she plans to attend the School of Pharmacy.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>OXFORD, Miss. \u2013 Kayla Snow, the reigning Miss University, was hosted at the state Capitol in Jackson Tuesday (April 10) by two members of the Legislature.
