{"id":14143,"date":"2012-04-21T19:55:28","date_gmt":"2012-04-22T00:55:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/news.olemiss.edu\/?p=14143"},"modified":"2014-09-23T08:32:39","modified_gmt":"2014-09-23T13:32:39","slug":"rebels-end-run-in-sec-championship-semifinals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/web20.olemiss.edu\/news\/wordpress\/rebels-end-run-in-sec-championship-semifinals\/","title":{"rendered":"Rebels End Run In SEC Championship Semifinals"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Team Now Waits Word On NCAA Regional<\/p>\n<p><strong>OXFORD, Miss.<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 When you\u2019re playing a team as good as No. 2 ranked Florida, every opportunity you have to get on top is huge.\u00a0 The Rebels had a chance to take the doubles point and the early momentum with a big crowd behind them, however Florida was able to win the tiebreaker on court one and use it to their advantage on their way to a 4-0 win here Saturday in the SEC Championship Semifinals at the Palmer\/Salloum Tennis Center\/Galtney Courts.<\/p>\n<p>With the win, Florida advances to the SEC Championship final to face third-seeded Georgia Sunday at Noon.\u00a0 Georgia defeated Alabama 4-2 in the other semifinal.\u00a0 Ole Miss finishes the tournament 1-1 including Friday\u2019s 4-0 win over No. 23 Vanderbilt.<\/p>\n<p>Florida cruised 8-1 at No. 2 doubles, but the Rebels were still in great shape to take the point up breaks on courts one and three.\u00a0\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.olemisssports.com\/sports\/w-tennis\/mtt\/verboven_iris00.html\">Iris Verboven<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.olemisssports.com\/sports\/w-tennis\/mtt\/jones_julia00.html\">Julia Jones<\/a>\u00a0defeated Alex Cercone and Olivia Janowicz 8-6 at three.\u00a0 In a top-five battle on court one between fourth-ranked Kristi Boxx\/Abby Guthrie and top-ranked Allie Will\/Sofie Oyen, the Rebel duo had a match point up 7-6, but Florida would hold and ultimately win a tiebreaker 9-8(7) to clinch the point.<\/p>\n<p>Florida gained a quick 3-0 lead with wins on courts three and one in that order.\u00a0 Freshman\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.olemisssports.com\/sports\/w-tennis\/mtt\/stephens_erin00.html\">Erin Stephens<\/a>, who clinched the Vanderbilt win, dropped her match to 23rd-ranrked Joanna Mather 6-3, 6-1.\u00a0 The No. 1 match on paper looked like a good one between Boxx, ranked No. 9 and Lauren Embree, ranked No. 10, but it was all Embree 6-2, 6-0.\u00a0 That made it 3-0 Gators.<\/p>\n<p>The remaining matches all went three sets.\u00a0 Florida clinched the win when Oyen finished off Jones 3-6, 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4.<\/p>\n<p>When the match was stopped, Guthrie was in the third set at five,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.olemisssports.com\/sports\/w-tennis\/mtt\/rohdemoe_caroline00.html\">Caroline Rohde-Moe<\/a>\u00a0was tied in the final set against No. 1 ranked Will, and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.olemisssports.com\/sports\/w-tennis\/mtt\/vlaar_vivian00.html\">Vivian Vlaar<\/a>\u00a0had just split at six.<\/p>\n<p>The Rebels are hoping that Saturday was not their last match of the season at the tennis center.\u00a0 They will find out May 1 if they get to host an NCAA Regional, when the pairings and sites are announced.<\/p>\n<p>Follow the Rebels on twitter at\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/intent\/user?screen_name=OleMissWTennis\">@OleMissWTennis<\/a>\u00a0and on facebook at\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/OleMissWTennis\">www.facebook.com\/OleMissWTennis<\/a>.<\/p>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Team Now Waits Word On NCAA Regional OXFORD, Miss.\u00a0\u2013 When you\u2019re playing a team as good as No. 2 ranked Florida, every opportunity you have to get on top is huge.\u00a0 The Rebels had a chance to take the doubles point and the early momentum with a big crowd behind them, however Florida was able<a class=\"more-link\" href=\"https:\/\/web20.olemiss.edu\/news\/wordpress\/rebels-end-run-in-sec-championship-semifinals\/\" rel=\"nofollow\">Read the story &#x2026;<\/a><!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on get_the_excerpt --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on get_the_excerpt --><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"ngg_post_thumbnail":0,"footnotes":""},"categories":[8],"tags":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v15.0 -
